Shades of White
The work “Shades of White” belongs to a series of works whose main characteristic is narrative monochromy. The relief quality of the work is nothing more than my inclination and desire to free the composition from its two-dimensional Procrustean bed, highlighting colour as the interaction of light radiation with pigment while simultaneously emphasising the absence of light through the shadows that emerge. Thus, light and shadow function more as a methodological tool for realising this artistic intention than as a conceptual axis for interpreting the work. In this particular work, the tonal nuances of white (instead of another narrative monochromy) and its repeated relief elements further bring out the interplay of light and shadow, while the mirrors serve as a channel for the viewer’s participation in the work’s conceptual content, which the viewer ultimately constructs.
